About the Role
As a Backend Engineer on the Core Technology organisation at Stripe Dublin, you will design, build, and operate the distributed systems that power Stripe’s payments platform. You will collaborate with engineers across Dublin, Singapore, San Francisco, Seattle, and New York to ship scalable, resilient services in Ruby, Go, Java, and Scala on a high-traffic production stack.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build backend services that scale to millions of requests per minute.
- Improve reliability, latency, and observability of Stripe’s core payments APIs.
- Partner with product, infrastructure, and SRE teams on cross-functional initiatives.
- Write clean, well-tested code and participate in design and code reviews.
- Mentor other engineers and contribute to engineering best practices.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
- Strong proficiency in at least one of Ruby, Go, Java, or Scala.
- Experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems.
- Solid understanding of relational databases, queues, and caching.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
